DAL@GB: So close, but . . .
This play was ruled a touchdown for the Cowboys’ Ryan Flournoy, and based on the existing break-the-plane rule, it is. We would argue Flournoy’s excellent effort during this goal line lunge was not quite excellent enough.
As the still image shows, the ball’s laces graze the sideline, and in our eyes that falls short of our requirement that a ballcarrier’s first contact beyond the goal line must be fully inbounds. In our world, replay would show Flournoy was fractionally out of bounds, so we would line up Dallas at or inside the 1 and run another play. Hocus Bogus Rating: 2.5

NO@NYG: Legit TD
Some readers wondered about this catch-and-run by the Giants’ Tyrone Tracy. At first glance at normal speed, it appears Tracy might have vaulted over the pylon and landed out of bounds without touching the end zone. But upon further review, we find Tracy made a superb effort to plant the ball in the designated scoring area. That, in our view, is a highly commendable, highly entertaining legitimate touchdown.
If given the chance, we believe ballcarriers would quickly adapt to the rule change we propose and make the effort needed to produce fun, athletic plays such as this. Rating: Excellent outcome
