Week 15: 67 touchdowns, 1 ATD

MIN@CHI: In-N-Out receiver

Here’s some great debate-starter material: Should Chicago’s Jesper Horstad have been credited with a touchdown on this, the last play of an easy Vikings victory?

Horstad catches the ball while in midair just barely within the end zone’s airspace. He’s hit by Minnesota safeties Harrison Smith (22) and Xavier Woods (23). He briefly juggles the ball, regains possession, and lands in front of the goal line, never touching the end zone.

The refs originally make what we regard as the logical and correct decision: Horstad never touches the end zone; thus he does not score. Yet they overrule themselves and award Horstad a touchdown, apparently because he momentarily possessed the ball (pre-juggle) while hovering above the end zone.

Or maybe because the Bears played so poorly in this game the refs called the play a touchdown as a consolation gift to the few Chicago fans left in the stadium.

Whatever. We say no TD. Hocus Bogus rating: 4.5
